Midland Officers Back on Duty After Fatal Shooting

MIDLAND - Three Midland Police Officers are back on duty following a deadly shooting back in October.

Sgt. Mitch Russell, Officer James Dolan and Det. Sean Sharp returned to full duty Monday.

An Administrative Review Board met last week and reviewed the officer-involved shooting that happened on October, 27th.

The board had to make sure the shooting followed state law and police procedures.

The board found:

  • The officer's actions were in compliance with both MPD General Orders and state law.
  • There is no need for further training and/or counseling.
  • No further action is warranted.

63-year-old Paul Holland was shot after a disturbance at 2405 Princeton in Midland.

After a short standoff, Holland came out of the house, while still talking to negotiators, and failed to follow verbal commands from the police.

He was shot and killed after turning toward officers with a pistol in his hand.
