MIDLAND  - A Midland family is grieving as police try to make sense of an overnight murder.

Police arrested 22-year-old Alex Saldana after they say he shot and killed 44-year old Stephen Adams in the parking lot of the Whataburger near Midkiff and Wadley.

Police say Adams and his wife were waiting outside the restaurant, for their daughter, who was inside ordering food---just after 2 in the morning.

Adams' wife says she heard a loud noise then jumped out of the pickup to find her husband lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

Adam's wife and other witnesses tried to help until an ambulance showed up.

Emergency crews took Adams to Midland Memorial Hospital, but he died on the way.

Saldana fled, but eyewitnesses helped police make the arrest.

A woman inside Saldana's car was released after she was questioned.

Saldana's bond has been set at $150,000.

Police are asking anyone who might have information regarding the motive of this crime to call Midland Police at 685-7108.
