GAINES COUNTY - A wild police chase across state lines ended with a Hobbs man behind bars after police threw down spike stripes and his Buick gave out in Gaines County.

Around 9:30 Wednesday morning Hobbs Police say 32-year-old Brian Powell may have stolen property from another driver.

The driver of a white pickup was tailing Powell's maroon Buick.

When officers tried to pull him over, he wouldn't stop.

Police say Powell had a warrant out for failing to register as a sex offender and that's when the chase started.

After nearly wrecking several times and crossing into Gaines County, police spike stripes worked and he was arrested.
