GAINES COUNTY - A wild police chase across state lines ended with a Hobbs man behind bars after police threw down spike stripes and his Buick gave out in Gaines County.

Around 9:30 Wednesday morning Hobbs Police say 32-year-old Brian Powell may have stolen property from another driver.

The driver of a white pickup was tailing Powell's maroon Buick.

When officers tried to pull him over, he wouldn't stop.

Police say Powell had a warrant out for failing to register as a sex offender and that's when the chase started.

After nearly wrecking several times and crossing into Gaines County, police spike stripes worked and he was arrested.

In Gaines County, Powell has been charged with having both stolen property and dangerous drugs.  In Hobbs, Powell has been charged with fleeing from police, but more charges including burglary and robbery from other incidents could be coming.
