Big Spring ISD Scaling Back Lunch Portions at Elementary Schools

Staff Report

BIG SPRING - Big Spring elementary students will find a little less lunch on their plates.

The district is cutting their portions to cut down on obesity.

They're doing that with the help of new computer software called "Nutrikids".

The software monitors nutrition and portion size.

School officals tell us until they adopted the new software all students were getting the same size portion as high school students.

Judy Grant, the Director of Food Services says besides keeping the kids healthier the new portions will help save the district money.

The new slimmer portions only effects the Kindergarden through 4th grade.
