PRESIDIO - A Presidio TXDOT employee gets one of the state's highest awards for saving a sick little boy during the flooding in Presidio.

Benjamin Benavidez from the Presidio Maintenance Office earned the Extra Mile Award.

Last month after helping the county fight off the floodwaters, we're told Benavidez drove 16 miles to Redford, through flooded out streets in a front end loader in the middle of the night to get to the sick boy, because emergency personnel couldn't get to him.

The child had an acute appendicitis attack.

Benavidez and the sheriff were able to get him out.

The child is doing just fine.
