Hot Oil Truck Explodes in South Midland County

MIDLAND COUNTY - A fire that sent a large plume of smoke into the air over southern Midland County has finally burned itself out.

The fire broke out just before 12:30 Thursday afternoon. The fire is near West County 1224 and 120.

A DPS trooper on the scene tells NewsWest 9 that it was a tank battery fire. NewsWest 9 has learned that a hot oil truck exploded and caught the battery on fire.

No one was injured and the fire was not a threat to the surrounding area.

A person who was in the area at the time says they heard three explosions before seeing smoke.
