HOWARD COUNTY - It was this day back in 1946 that Howard College opened its doors to students for the first time.

And on Tuesday, they gathered again to celebrate a renewal.

Balloons flew as Howard College students broke ground on the new bond project.

Alumni, current students, and future Howard College grads helped mark this ceremony.

They cheered on the College anniversary and the kick-off of the new projects.

"We thought it was very fitting to have some students from our first class, as well as one of our faculty members to be here with us today with our current students and our future students, Howard College President Cheryl Sparks, said.

Since the school began in 1946, they've grown to 3,500 students.

School leaders hope the bond voted on in May will bring a renewal to campus.
