Newspaper Publisher Pleads Guilty to Having Child Pornography

MIDLAND - The editor of the Winkler County newspaper is now looking at ten years in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

61-year-old Richard McLaughlin made that plea in federal court Wednesday. His sentencing will take place in the next 80-90 days. His attorney Richard Alvarado tells NewsWest 9 that McLaughlin wants to put this behind him and move forward as quickly as possible.

FBI and Kermit Police arrested McLaughlin on August 7th after more than a year long investigation. Authorities removed video and pictures from McLaughlins bedroom featuring pre-teen and teenage boys performing sexual acts.
