Wanted Suspect Commits Suicide in Lea County

HOBBS, NEW MEXICO - Lea County officials are releasing the name of the man they say shot and killed himself as deputies showed up with warrants for his arrest.

It happened Tuesday at a home at 803 west De Vargas in Hobbs.

Deputies were looking for 31-year-old Jeremiah Cranor who has several warrants in Texas and New Mexico.

A person inside the mobile home told officers Cranor was there.

After searching the home, they couldn't find him.

Outside they noticed a window screen in a bedroom had been ripped out, and part of the skirting on the bottom of the trailer had been removed.

They found Cranor hiding underneath the mobile home.

As deputies tried to get him to come out, they heard a gunshot.

They tell us Cranor shot himself in the head.

His body has been sent for an autopsy.
