International Bridge Closed in Presidio

PRESIDIO - Local residents with family and friends living in Mexico should not drive to Presidio to try to get across the Rio Grande.

The international bridge on US 67 has been closed, along with customs facilities and the port of entry on both sides of the bridge, due to flooding on the Rio Grande caused by releases from rain-swollen dams on the upper Rio Concho in Mexico.

Benny Benavidez, the Texas Department of Transportation supervisor in Presidio, said that many of those who are being stopped from crossing into Ojinaga by the flooding are from the Midland-Odessa area.

TxDOT has posted notices on its Interstate message signs at Monahans and Fort Stockton, alerting westbound travelers that the bridge is closed.
