ODESSA - A week after being severely damaged by vandals, a well known Odessa figure is getting ready for some much needed T-L-C.

As NewsWest Nine told you last week, Prairie Dog Pete, inside Odessa's Sherwood Park, was again the target of vandalism.

According to Parks and Recreation Director Steve Patton, the damage is so bad, it's impossible to repair him on site.   That's why crews were out on Wednesday getting him ready for the trip.

Patton tells NewsWest Nine, it's not known how long the repair job will take, but as soon as it's completed, Prairie Dog Pete will be returned to Sherwood Park.

The statue has been a prominent attraction of the Park since the the early 1950's.
