ODESSA - Lightning is getting the flame for a big tank battery fire in West Odessa.

Volunteer and city firefighters finally got it under control after several hours.

The tanks ignited on west 42nd and Knox Road around 7:15 Monday morning when the storm rolled in.

No one was hurt in the fire.

Lightning also sparked a fire at the Madera Point Apartments on north Whitaker, about an hour after the tank battery blaze.

Firefighters say the bolt hit an air conditioning unit, which caused a fire in the attic of a building.

There was major damage to a couple of second floor units, and water and smoke damage to some others.

No one was hurt in either fire.
