ALPINE - Alpine residents are back in their homes after authorities were forced to clean up a dangerous tanker car leak.
Brewster County Deputies say as a precaution they evacuated dozens of residents, but the area is now safe.
Authorities found the leak on a train around noon on Saturday.
This is in the southeast part of Alpine, near Highway 90 and the Old Marathon Road.
NewsWest 9 has learned state troopers had to block off parts of Highway 90 Saturday afternoon so that cleanup crews could secure an argon leak on one of the train's cars.
Brewster County Deputies tell NewsWest 9, a HAZMAT crew was called in from El Paso to help fix the leak.
Both state troopers and volunteer firefighters helped in evacuating residents near the southeast part of town, but the area was for the most part cleaned up by 5:15 Saturday afternoon.
There are no reported injuries.
