WEST TEXAS- The West Texas American Red Cross won't be traveling to the coast, but they're ready and waiting.
Gustav left many homeless in Jamaica and as it evolves into a hurricane it's currently heading straight for the Gulf Coast. If it gets as bad as Katrina many will need shelter and that's where our local Red Cross comes in.
"Our responsibilities in the local area predominantly as far as the Red Cross is concerned will be to set up a shelter site. We are told that something on the border of 45 thousand citizens of the State of Louisiana are likely to self evacuate," Bob Rice, Executive Director of American Red Cross of Southwest Texas, said.
Rice also says the West Texas branch is one of several locations in the state that's willing to give shelter to anyone that needs it. They'll be ready to give food, clothing and shelter to about 300 people.
