MADRID, Spain (AP) - A Spanish government minister says 153 people died in the airliner crash at Madrid airport.

Development Minister Magdalena Alvarez told a press conference 19 people survived but some are in critical condition. The airline Spanair says 172 people were on the plane.

Alvarez said investigators ruled out foul play and consider the crash an accident.

The MD-82 airliner was bound for the Canary Islands when it crashed while trying to take off from Madrid.
