Water and Sewer Rates Going Up in October for Odessa Taxpayers

ODESSA - By October Odessa taxpayer pockets will be a little lighter.

At Tuesday night's Council Meeting, city leaders approved a three percent increase in water and sewer rates.

Council members tell us, it's because of the rising cost of water cleaning chemicals.

The cost went up about 700 dollars per ton.

That means an average family of four will pay about three dollars more, but while those rates went up, the tax rate will go down one point six percent.

This marks the fifth year in a row that rates have gone down.

City officials hope the drop will help Odessans as home values are going up.
