A 16-year old murder suspect was convicted for the slaying of a Lovington convenience store clerk on Thursday.

The jury took only a half hour on Wednesday to reach a verdict against Israel Marquez.

He also was convicted of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and tampering with evidence.

Marquez was accused in the November 5th death of Allsup's Clerk Virginia Land who authorities say was shot during an attempted robbery.

Another teen, 17-year-old Joshua Gutierrez had pleaded guilty to a second-degree murder charge in exchange for testifying against Marquez and 22-year-old Jonathan Silva.

Silva's trial is set for August 25th on murder, robbery and other charges.
