California Man Accused of Killing an Odessa Boy Pleads Not Guilty

The California man facing charges in connection with the death of a five-year Old odessa boy on July 4th plead not guilty in court on Monday morning.

24-year Juan Hernandez Nunez was in a courtroom briefly for an arraignment hearing.

He faces involuntary manslaughter and child endangerment charges in the death of Jesse Alvarez.

Alvarez was Nunez's girlfriend's son.

According to authorities, Nunez was playing with Alvarez on the beach when Nunez put sand in the boy's face.

Investigators say the boy stopped breathing.

Nunez is still waiting for the court to appoint him a lawyer.

If found guilty, Nunez faces any where from three to eleven years behind bars.

For now, Nunez is still behind bars in lieu of a one million dollar bond.
