MIDLAND - The investigation continues into a fatal accident over the weekend, while crews begin repairing a light pole that was damaged during the accident.
It happened early Sunday morning when, according to police, 33-year-old Lorenzo Marquez was speeding down Big Spring Street towards Wadley at 80 miles per hour.
Thats when Marquez tried to pass another car, but lost control and crashed into a traffic pole.
Police say Marquez was pronounced dead on the scene.
No one else was injured in the accident and police are awaiting toxicology results to determine if Marquez was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash.
Officials tell NewsWest 9, the damaged light pole will remain a blinking red light until repairs are done on August 1st.
