ODESSA - Schlemeyer field airport officials gave the green light to a new runway on Friday morning.
County, Airport, and TXDOT officials hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Runway 1129.
It's a big one by aviation standards, stretching over 6,200 feet.
TXDOT officials say the new runway will be a boom to the local economy.
"In our opinion, and in my past experience, the airport is like a window to the rest of the world," Aviation Project Manager, Bijan Jamalabad, said.
Runway 1129 actually opened for business about three weeks ago, and is expected to get traffic from both private and commercial jets.
A TXDOT aviation grant funded most of the project.
Ector County picked up about ten percent of the seven million dollar bill.
