MIDLAND - The Texas Forest Service is heading out of Midland.

They've spent the past 149 days in town helping battle grassfires.

Now they're re-assigning their resources, since we're seeing better weather and conditions.

Simply put, their firefighters are needed in other parts of the state right now.

That doesn't mean there isn't a forest service presence in West Texas.

Outposts will stay in San Angelo, Abilene, and Fort Stockton.

If conditions change, the Forest Service tells NewsWest 9 they can always come back if they need to.
