MIDLAND - New details on an apartment fire in Midland.
Investigators confirm the fire was started by an air conditioning unit.
It either overheated or shorted out.
Firefighters tell NewsWest 9, the AC Unit was in the attic of the building, and the flames spread quickly through the attics of the other apartments.
Investigators say the AC units are in the attic, because the Coventry Pointe Apartments were built in the 70's under different fire code guidelines.
16 apartments were lost in the blaze early Sunday morning, leaving nearly 60 people without a home.
Many of the victims are foreign students who work at the Midland Hilton.
