Dallas based London Broadcasting Company Inc. has purchased KWES-TV, along with three sister stations, in a package deal from Drewry Communications based in Lawton, Oklahoma. The acquisition includes Telemundo affiliates at all four stations and La Ley radio here in Midland-Odessa.
Officially announced today, the sale includes KWES-TV (NBC) Midland-Odessa, KFDA-TV (CBS) in Amarillo, KSWO-TV (ABC) in Lawton, Oklahoma and KXXV-TV (ABC) in Waco. London Broadcasting acquired its first station in February, purchasing KYTX-TV in Tyler, and now has properties in five Texas mid-size markets. Terry E. London, a former CEO and President of Gaylord Entertainment, is the President of London Broadcasting Company.
NewsWest9 General Manager Mac Douglas said he doesn't expect viewers to notice any immediate changes because of the sale. "We think it means business as usual. We are very happy about it," Douglas said. "Terry London is a very aggressive, very progressive broadcaster."
The sale still has to receive Federal Communications Commission approval, which should take at least 90 days.
