AUSTIN - A district judge in Austin has ruled that former Midland City Councilman Bill Dingus can run for state office.
Judge Margaret Cooper made that ruling Monday afternoon after lawyers spoke for about 40 minutes in an Austin court.
Dingus wants to run against Tom Craddick for State Representative in District 82. The Texas Republican Party had raised questions about Dingus' eligibility since he did not resign from the Midland City Council when he filed.
Dingus resigned from the city council back in April and then filed suit to get his name on the ballot.
Dingus told NewsWest9 that he was happy to have the eligibility questions behind him and he will continue to campaign. Dingus opened his campaign headquarters in Midland late last week.
