Pecos - Authorities say a man arrested for the murder of two Pecos residents has confessed to the crime.

Pecos Police tell NewsWest9 that Randall Lee Stevens confessed Wednesday to killing Rick and A.J. Cherry back on May 7th at their Pecos bar. The couple had been stabbed to death and their truck was stolen.

An Alabama deputy located Stephens at a restaurant off Interstate 10 near Mobile, Alabama on Tuesday. Stephens handed the deputy a social security card and one quick phone call to Pecos led to his arrest.

The Pecos Police Department is now preparing an affidavit with the district attorney to obtain capital murder charges for Stevens. He remains in custody in Mobile.

Stevens was indicted Thursday in Pecos Federal Court under the Adam Walsh Act which means he failed to register as a sex offender, crossed state lines and committed a violent crime. Under those charges alone he could face 50 years in prison.
