It may sound like science fiction, but one McCamey soldier recently received a breakthrough surgery that may actually help him regrow his finger.

We first told you about Staff Sergeant Shilo Harris last year, after he almost died following a roadside bomb explosion in Iraq last February.

Since that time, he has undergone many reconstructive procedures, primarily on his nose and mouth.

But he also was part of a procedure involving cutting edge medical technology.

Staff Sergeant Harris is already growing flesh where his doctors placed a powder mixture containing stem cells last week.

According to his wife Katheryn, this is the first surgery of its kind.

We will continue to bring you updates on Harris' progress.
