MIDLAND - A Midland College professor who was arrested for having child pornography will remain in federal custody, at least for now.

Dr. David Allen was arrested last week at his home in North Midland, and was charged with distributing child pornography over the Internet.

His work computer was also seized by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials as part of their investigation.

Allen appeared before a federal judge last Friday morning. Allen's attorneys asked the court to send Allen to one of two facilities that treat sex addiction. One facility is in Arizona, the other is in North Texas.

After reviewing both facilities, the judge has ruled that Allen will remain in federal custody. The judge ruled that neither facility was adequate for Allen's needs. The judge gave Allen's attorneys 48 hours to come up with more facilities where Allen could get treatment while he awaits his trial date.

Allen reportedly tried to commit suicide shortly after his arrest.

He has been the Director of Theater at Midland College for the past ten years. Allen is currently on unpaid leave from Midland College.
