LATEST: Fire 90 Percent Contained

ECTOR COUNTY -  A fire that has burned all afternoon in Ector County near West County Road and West Yukon is now 90 percent contained.

Officials say six homes have been destoyed. Seven people are displaced from their homes at this time.

The Texas Forest Service is reporting that 25 acres have been burned, 150 homes have been self-evacuated in the Odessa area, and 100 homes were threatened.

Yukon between West County Road and the Loop 338 has been blocked off. Black smoke can be seen filling the skies over Odessa.

Several fender benders happened in the area.

Midland firefighters sent 2 firetrucks and an ambulance to the scene to assist in the firefighting effort.

The following has been released from the Emergency Operations Center in Odessa:

The Odessa Fire Department, Goldsmith and Gardendale Volunteer Fire Departments, and the Texas Forest Service are battling multiple blazes in the area south of Judy, north of Yukon, west of Maurene and east of Loop 338.

There is heavy smoke in the area and citizens need to avoid the area.

Fire crews have responded to multiple structure fires. At this time no one has been transported with injuries, however one person has been treated for breathing problems.

Approximately 25 acres have been destroyed and approximately 150 people self-evacuated from the area.

The Ector County Sheriff's office is on scene and the American Red Cross is on scene providing assistance to emergency crews.
