Modano, Richards Break Open Tight Game as Stars Down Ducks to Take 2-0 Series Lead

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Mike Modano and Brad Richards scored 55 seconds apart in the third period as the Dallas Stars beat the Ducks 5-2 in Anaheim.

The Stars blew a 2-0 lead in the second period before taking a two-games-to-none lead against the defending Stanley Cup champs in the Western Conference quarterfinals. Modano broke the tie with a power-play goal at 5:47 of the final period.

Richards also assisted on Loui (LOO'-ee) Eriksson's insurance goal with 5:24 remaining.

Mike Ribeiro finished with a goal and two assists for the Stars, who host game three Tuesday.

Marty Turco handled 20 shots and was perfect after Teemu Selanne (TAY'-moo seh-LAH'-nee) and Travis Moen (MOH'-ehn) tallied in the middle stanza.
