ODESSA - It's official. E.C.I.S.D. has a new Superintendent.
School board members met for about ten minutes in executive session to determine if Hector Mendez would be given the position.
With a four to three vote, School Board members voted to name Mendez as the new Superintendent for the District.
Mendez has been serving as the interim superintendent for the last nine months, and according to some board members that is just enough time.
"You don't get the opportunity to watch somebody work for 9 months to see how the staff supports them," E.C.I.S.D. School Board President Carol Gregg said.
While some members are satisfied with the board's decision.
Others feel that the process was completely short circuited.
"We haven't looked; the School Board hasn't done its job. And until we do our job we cannot in all conscious and stand up before the voters and parents of E.C.I.S.D. and say this is the best thing to do," ECISD Trustee Doyle Woodall said.
For now, Hector Mendez will have to wait another 21 days before he becomes the official new Superintendent for the Ector County Independent School District.
