MIDLAND - The Midland Police Department is looking at replacing some bullet proof vests all thanks to a federal grant.

In 1998, the Bullet Proof Vest Partnership Grant Act was created by the Department of Justice.

This requires the government to match the money spent for vests by local law enforcement, which have to be replaced every 5 years, at 565 dollars a pop.

In total, this program has saved the city more than 70 thousand dollars.
