MIDLAND - We depend on firefighters to save our lives and homes in a dangerous blaze, but there's a lot you can do to protect yourself, and help those firefighters out.

The Midland Fire Department is offering a free, 10-week course to inform and educate residents on the basics of fire behavior and how to control it.

Students even learn how to operate a fire engine and pump water at a real fire scene.

The course starts Thursday and is held every week.

For more information, stop by the Central Fire Station or call 685-7338.
