HOWARD COUNTY - The battle to contain a large grassfire continues in Howard County.
Firefighting crews are still on the scene working through the night to make sure nothing flares up again.
Dark smoke could be seen for miles as it billowed in the air over the north side of Big Spring.
The fire started Friday afternoon along Highway 350 near Interstate 20.
Deputies were on the scene, directing traffic, after shutting down a portion of Highway 350 because of the smoke and fire.
While crews battled the blaze on the ground, The Texas Forest Service brought in a helicopter and large tanker aircraft from Abilene to drop fire retardant and water from the air.
Several homes and a junkyard were in the path of the flames, but no buildings were burned and no one was evacuated.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
