BREWSTER COUNTY - Firefighters in Brewster County are saying residents are safe after a major grassfire just southwest of Marathon.
They say about 12 to 15 thousand acres were burned.
It all was started after windy weather had ended up damaging a powerline which then sparked the fire.
Firefighters say they worked for hours on Friday afternoon until dark.
While several structures were threatened from the fire, fire officials say those homes were protected and no one was injured.
Firefightes ended up letting the fire burned itself out overnight on some nearby mountain areas.
