PECOS COUNTY - More than 5000 acres are a blaze, and crews are still on site fighting a large fire in Pecos County.

The Forest Service tells NewsWest Nine, at least 12 structures are in the path of this fire, but so far, it's primarily ranch land that's burned.

The fire is along Highway 285, about 23 miles south east of Fort Stockton.

Fire trucks and bull dozers are reportedly there now in an effort to contain the fire.

The Texas Forest Service says its air tanker is on the way at this hour to begin dropping water and fire retardant on the fire from the air.

A hot check crew is also on the way.

We're told this crew is highly trained in fighting fires on the ground.

No word yet on how the blaze started.
