ODESSA - Odessa Fire Investigators say they now know what started a massive grassfire on the south side of the city on February 25th, 2008.

A lit cigarette.

That's the finding from a joint investigation by the U.S. Forest Service, the Texas Forest Service, and the Odessa Fire Marshal's Office.

Around 33-hundred acres of property were scorched in the fire.

Remarkably, no homes or buidlings were lost in that fire.

It took Odessa and Midland firefighters, along with volunteers from West Odessa, Gardendale, South Ector County, and the Texas Forest Service, about 12 hours to put that fire out.
