HOWARD COUNTY - Howard County Commissioners are moving forward with their ankle bracelet program for non-violent offenders.
The program is designed to keep inmates out of jail, and to save the County money.
According to the pre-trial bonding department's presentation, the program should go into effect within a week.
The bracelets use GPS tracking and the Internet to keep tabs of where an inmate is at all times.
The cost per day is under ten dollars, and compared to the cost of housing inmates at around 45 dollars a day, county leaders say this should save them lots of money.
