NEAR IRAAN- NewsWest9 has confirmed that the Texas Youth Commission will close its Sheffield Boot Camp near Iraan. The facility will close by March 31st.
The facility employs some 60 people and only has 17 youth there. TYC officials say the facility is closing because it has become hard to staff the boot camp.
Those employees will have the option of transferring to the West Texas State School in Pyote, which will remain open. They can also transfer to other TYC facilities in the state.
You may remember the TYC was rocked last year by scandal amid allegations of sexual abuse and misconduct at the Pyote facility. That scandal caused several people to lose their jobs and landed the agency in conservatorship.
The two men at the center of the allegations, John Paul Hernandez and Ray Brookins have been charged in connection with scandal.
Both men are accused with allegedly trading favors for sexual acts.
