ODESSA - The man Odessa Police say held them at bay for more than six hours is still under a mental evaluation.

After that, authorities will decide whether or not he will face any charges.

The standoff ended just before 6:30 Saturday evening in the 87-hundred block of Lamar.

Earlier in the day, police responded to reports of a man in his 50's holding a gun.

When officers arrived, he locked himself inside the home and refused to come out.

Two family members told police the suspect was on several prescription drugs and had guns in the house.

The SWAT team, K-9 officers, The Crisis Intervention Unit, Ector County Deputies, and a crew from Midland all responded.

Officers finally coaxed him out, but they did have to shoot bean bags at him when he tried to get away.

He was taken to Medical Center Hospital.

The man's identity has not been released.
