Juvenile Found After Escaping From the West Texas State School

PYOTE - NewsWest 9 the only ones on the scene when an inmate was taken into custody after escaping from the West Texas State School in Pyote.  

Ward County Deputies spotted the 16 year old boy on I-20, just before 9 Thursday night.

The 16 year old was about 5 miles west from Pyote, and walking on foot.

The West Texas State School is not saying how the teen escaped or when.

State Troopers, U.S. Marshals, and Texas Wildlife and Game helped in the search, along with Ward County Deputies.

The Sheriff's Office got the call just after 5:30 Thursday night.

"Reeves County coordinated off the area, and Parks & Wildlife Unit was about 5 miles west of here.  Apparently, the kid attempted to take the truck and they took him into custody at that time.  So he was still within the perimeter," Ward County Sheriff Mikel Strickland, said.

No word on what charges the teenager is facing.
