MARTIN COUNTY - Ranchers and fire officials in Martin County still trying to figure out how much damage was done after a huge grassfire on Monday.

76-hundred acres were scorched between Highway 349 and Highway 829.

Investigators say the flames were set off by sparks from the axle of a car going down the highway.

Three cows were killed by the flames, some others were hurt and may have to be put down.

It took firefighters from Martin, Midland, Andrews, and Dawson counties to get the fire under control.

The flames were being fanned by 40 mile an hour winds.
