AUSTIN - The TYC headquarters in Austin is taking heat from Texas law makers after they spent more than a quarter of a million dollars on new offices.

The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday that TYC Officials spent 5-hundred and fifty thousand dollars on furniture, renovations, and telecommunications equipment.

The problem is lawmakers had already turned down a request to use the money for that.

Instead, the money was supposed to go towards hiring new corrections officers.

The TYC Executive Director says they had to spend the money on offices for new employees and to improve their regular operations after last year's prison abuse scandal.

According to the report, lawmakers say they thought only a little leftover money would be spent on offices and renovations.
