Continuing coverage on the trial of Hobbs woman accused of hitting a police officer with his patrol car last August.

27-year-old Heather Atkinson was found guilty of escaping from police custody, and will spend one year in prison.

But a jury found her not guilty of stealing a police car and causing bodily injury to Lieutenant Lance Telchik.

Atkinson was arrested in August after she was pulled over for speeding and driving erratically.

Police say she climbed from the back of a patrol car into the front seat and took off, hitting Techik who was trying to stop her.

Along with the one year in prison, Atkinson will have to pay a 3 thousand dollar fine.
