OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Oakland Athletics have sent popular outfielder Nick Swisher to the Chicago White Sox in a trade for three minor leaguers.

Swisher was a switch-hitting fan favorite and one of the few constants for Oakland in recent seasons. His 80 home runs in an A's uniform were a franchise record by a switch hitter. He also set highs for batting average, walks and doubles.

Oakland general manager Billy Beane said last month that the A's are rebuilding. They traded ace Dan Haren to Arizona on December 14th.

After getting to the American League Championship Series in 2006, the A's had their string of winning seasons end at eight with a 79-and-86 finish.
