City of Odessa mourning the death of the "Sandwich Lady"

The City of Odessa is mourning the death of the a very special woman who became well-known as the "Sandwich Lady."

Adela Uranga received this title after dedicating her time and efforts to feeding the poor and homeless in odessa.

For more than twenty years, mrs uranga would faithfully take them food and clothing, regardeless of what season it was or what the weather was like.

"She had the tenacity to stick to it even if it was cold, dreary, rainy, snowy it may have been a 100 plus degrees but she was there," Odel Crawford, said.

But Mrs. Uranga acts did not go un-noticed for too long.

In 1987, she was honored by the former President Bush as one of his points of light.

Adela was 93 years old at the time of her death.

A memorial mass will be celebrated in her honor on Saturday at two pm at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Odessa.
