Two Midlanders brought in the New Year with a bang by becoming parents.

They had the first Midland baby born in the New Year.

Marianne Enriquez and Guadalupe Garza welcomed in the new year with their newborn daughter, Marisol.

She was born at 7:38 Tuesday morning at 7 pounds 12 ounces, and she was 18 and a half inches long.

Hospital employees tell us this time of year everyone in the hospital joins together to make it a special time for the family.

"Our New Years baby we always make a big deal about it, because we're so excited for the mom.  We have a whole diaper bag full of gifts for the mom and the baby.  Diapers, which she's going to need lots of.  Onesies, and pacifiers, and all kinds of little goodies.  Then we have our "Pink Ladies" that knit hand-made blankets for our first baby girl and baby boy of the new year, so we're giving those to her as well," Marcy Madrid, Head of Public Relations for Midland Memorial Hospital, said.

Marcy also told us Marisol was one of five babies expected to be born on New Years Day, but the other four beat the clock before midnight.
