Midland man turns himself in after aggravated assault

A Midland man is behind bars after a confrontation that turned violent as gunshots ringout on front street.  

Midland police say the fight started, when 19-year-old Arthur Jeffrey Martinez approached 28-year-old Robert Barrera in the parking lot of the Kent Kwik on east Front street.  

According to witnesses, the men got into an argument and Martinez pulled out a gun.  

He allegedly shot Barrera in the right leg, then took off in a van.  

Police say two others who were with Martinez fled on foot.  

A short time later, Martinez turned himself into Police.  

He faces charges for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.  

Barrera was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
