AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - One person was killed and more than two dozen others were injured in a massive midmorning pileup that shut down Interstate 40 in Amarillo for most of the day on Saturday.

Amarillo police say that more than 50 vehicles, including several tractor-trailer rigs, were involved in the chain-reaction accident believed to have been caused by poor visibility brought on by blowing snow.

Amarillo Fire Department Captain Bob Johnson confirmed the one fatality to the Amarillo Globe-News.

Police say that the accidents ranged from minor to extensive, with at least one passenger car pinned under a tractor trailer-rig.
