If you're heading out of town for the holidays, the Midland Police Department has some tips on how you can make sure your home is safe while you're gone.

Deadbolt your doors and lock your windows.

Put your newspaper and mail on hold, so it won't pile up while you're gone.

Make it look like someone is there at night, leave a light, a tv, or radio on.

If you can put them on a timer, even better. Close your blinds and curtains, and leave a car in the driveway.

Another tip, turn off you garage door opener, don't take a chance on a thief being able to use an electronic device to open it.
