Families that have lost a loved one in a drunk driving accident now have a new way to remember them.

The Texas Department of Transportation is launching a Memorial Sign program aimed at reducing the number of drunk driving accidents

The new memorial signs are blue and contain the victims name, date of crash and the phrases "please don't drink and drive" and "in memory of."

The program was created at the request of a mother whose daughter was killed by a drunk driver.

It is so new, there is only one memorial on display in all of texas.

"It's a sign that was put up in the memory of Rachel Blasingame who was a 16 yr old that was killed in a traffic accident by a drunk driver," Public Information Officer Glen Larum said.

Under the program, the fatal accident had to occur on a State Highway.

The memorial sign will remain in place for 1 year, after that it will be returned to the victims family
